Deadlines approaching for FAU Nursing Degree programs

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — In an effort to address the national critical nursing shortage, Florida Atlantic University’s Christine E. Lynn College of Nursing is recruiting Treasure Coast nurses for its Registered Nurse to Bachelor of Science in Nursing (RN to BSN), Master of Science in Nursing (MSN) and master’s level Family Nurse Practitioner programs at its Harbor Branch Oceanographic Institute in Fort Pierce. Application deadlines are approaching.

“We are thrilled to offer these programs to the Treasure Coast, providing needed access for nurses to advance their careers while addressing the critical nursing shortage,” said Marlaine Smith, Ph.D., dean of the College of Nursing. “We encourage local nurses to consider taking their next steps with us. We’re committed to providing flexible learning options right here on the Treasure Coast.”

According to the American Association of Colleges of Nursing, the U.S. is projected to experience a shortage of nurses that is expected to intensify as baby boomers age and the need for health care grows.

The Family Nurse Practitioner program provides the preparation, knowledge and skills needed for the care of children and adults in a primary care setting. Advantages of this affordable program include a flexible schedule with some online classes and clinical sites on the Treasure Coast.

FAU College of Nursing students have had a proven 100 percent pass rate on the Nurse Practitioner Certification exam for the last five years. The deadline to apply for the Family Nurse Practitioner program is Sunday, Feb. 15.

The MSN program also prepares graduates for advance nursing practice as a holistic nurse, clinical nurse leader, administrator or educator. These concentrations offer flexibility for full or part-time Treasure Coast students. The deadline to apply to these MSN program concentrations is Monday, June 1, for a Fall 2015 start.

The RN-to-BSN track in the Bachelor of Science in Nursing program also offers a flexible schedule, and is for applicants who have completed a diploma or associate’s degree nursing program at an Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing Education, Inc., accredited institution and possess an unencumbered RN license. The deadline to apply to the RN to BSN program for the summer 2015 term is Wednesday, April 15 for University undergraduate admission, and Thursday, April 30 for the College of Nursing.
