Richard Root, 83, of Vero Beach, passed away at the Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years Nancy Root; his sons Rick L. Root, DMD of Vero Beach and Kent D. Root of Boca Raton; his daughter-in-law Betsy Root; and his grandchildren Megan Root and Kent Douglas Root.
Born to German immigrants in Dayton, Ohio, Root was a hardworking, intelligent student who worked his way through Capital University in Columbus, Ohio. He was then drafted into the US Army during the Korean War. After his honorable discharge, Root enjoyed a long career as a layout designer in electrical engineering for Frigidaire in Dayton, Ohio.
After retiring from Frigidaire, he enjoyed a fruitful career as a real estate broker in Vero Beach. He obtained a private pilot license and loved flying his Piper Saratoga airplane. His favorite pastime was spending time with his family. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather.
