Exchange Club awards grant to Youth Guidance

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Exchange Club of Indian River Foundation awarded a $5,000 grant to the Youth Guidance Mentoring and Activities Program of Indian River County. The funds will be used to support the operation of the programs of Youth Guidance Mentoring Academy, including costs for activities, personnel, and mentor recruitment. Executive Director Doug Borrie accepted the check on behalf of the organization.

For nearly 40 years, Youth Guidance has been empowering Indian River County’s neediest children and youth through mentoring, tutoring, monthly activities, summer camps, college scholarships, and holiday gifts and celebrations. Youth Guidance depends on the services of volunteers and the financial support of the Indian River community from private donors and foundations. A wide range of opportunities to participate is available to volunteers.

Each year Exchange Club of Indian River’s Foundation awards grants such as this one for special local projects that further its mission of prevention of child abuse. Winners of the grants are determined by the relevance of the projects’ goals to this mission and related factors. Jenny Frederick chairs the Grants Committee.

Exchange Club of Indian River has provided the community with programs in youth activities, service, and Americanism since 1973. It is affiliated with America’s service club, the National Exchange Club. Members meet for lunch at Culinary Capers each Wednesday at 12 p.m. Meetings feature programs on a wide range of business, government and civic, charity, personal, and professional topics. The club’s foundation’s fishing tournament, the Blue Water Open Dolphin Mania Charity Fishing Tournament, has supported these projects for 38 years. The club was also a proud partner in the 2014 Vero Beach Air Show.
