LETTER: Sebastian economy loses with anti-RV vote

Just read the results of the meeting that dealt with the proposed RV park proposal and I’m sorry that I was not in attendance, because I do feel that a blow has been dealt to the economy.

I have until about a year and a half ago been an enthusiastic RV’er . I sold my coach (note it was not a “trailer” Forty footer self contained and it lacked for nothing! I had had some sort of RV since 1971 as my family got smaller My coach got bigger.

My guess is that the people who voted against this project had little or no experience with these rigs of today or they would have not been quite so vocal and opinionated, perhaps I should use the term ignorant or misinformed.

I will be the first to admit that the “trailer trash” that does exist along US 1 can be and is an eyesore, but this project didn’t sound like it was to be an eyesore quite the contrary. I would be willing to bet that the most people who were so vocal couldn’t afford to fill one of these upper end coaches with a tank of fuel, let alone pay the tax on the initial purchase put new tires on or just in general pay for the upkeep, and that the $150,000 to $200,000 mortgage you are struggling with each month is really taxing you.

Do you really think that these people are trailer trash, how disillusioned you really are! I have enjoyed camaraderie with these fine folks for many years. No we are not a bunch of lushes and party animals, very serious people who travel extensively.

Due to age and health I had to give up the lifestyle, but the main reason is the “crazy’s” on the highways – I refer to the texters and the cell phone idiots.

Well it is only my humble opinion but Sebastian has just lost a valuable contributor to their economy, and I really do hope that you find yourself saddled with some Low Income Housing you deserve it.
