VERO BEACH — Harvest Food and Outreach Center will be doing so much more than just feeding families this Holiday Season. It will provide valuable life skills workshops and on the job training opportunities designed to break the cycle of poverty. Of course, this cannot be done without the support of the community.
Each year, the Hunger Free Radiothon serves as not only a major source of funding for Harvest Food & Outreach Center, but also as an outreach and advocacy opportunity. For most of us, the holidays are a time of joy and celebration, but for many families along the Treasure Coast, this time of year is a source of stress and uncertainty.
At Harvest Food and Outreach Center, it is our hope that no family will have to suffer during the holidays and that lasting solutions are provided to those struggling with the issues of hunger and poverty.
Harvest Food and Outreach Center is once again preparing for the annual Hunger Free Holidays Radiothon to be held from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 6, sponsored by CenterState Bank and Comfort Experts and hosted by Treasure and Space Coast Radio on The Breeze 93.7 FM, Ocean 97.1FM and TALKRADIO WTTB 1440.
“We are looking forward to this year’s event to be the most successful to date! For the first time, we are providing businesses and individuals an opportunity to secure time segments for challenge gifts in advance of our Radiothon,” explained Jamie Jackson, Director of Institutional Advancement for Harvest Food and Outreach Center, Indian River County.
A business or individual can select a specific time segment and on-air talent will challenge the community during that time to call in to match that gift challenge. Each time the radio announcer mentions the Community Challenge Pledge they mention the challenger’s name. It’s a terrific way to enhance marketing exposure and a great way to help others during the holiday season. To make arrangements for a Community Challenge Pledge, contact [email protected] or call 772-778-3977.
During the radiothon pledges can be made by texting “HFOC” to 41444 or by calling 855-YES-FOOD.
All proceeds benefit Harvest Food and Outreach Center right here on the Treasure Coast. Harvest Food and Outreach Center, founded in 2003 by Austin and Ginny Hunt on the Treasure Coast, provides a holistic, multi-component approach that provides a hand up to those living at or under the 200 percent federal poverty level.
Harvest’s unique model offers a comprehensive three-tiered approach to lifting people out of poverty through: 1) a Hunger Relief Program that includes an Emergency Food Box and Cost Share Grocery Program, 2) a Crisis Center that stabilizes people in crisis through counseling and active referrals to services, and 3) Education and Employment Opportunity Programs that address the source of the problem and provides long term solutions for those in need toward self-sufficiency.
