Hurricane Gonzalo becomes a Category 4 storm

Hurricane Gonzalo has been upgraded to a Category 4 storm, according to the National Hurricane Center. 

It is still not forecast to hit the United States. However, Bermuda is under a Hurricane Watch.

It is holding maximum sustained winds of nearly 130 mph with even stronger gusts.

Gonzalo is tracking northwest at 12 mph.

Hurricane Gonzalo has become a major hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center. 

The storm is now a Category 3 Hurricane. It is still not forecast to hit the United States. 

It is holding maximum sustained winds of 115 mph and is tracking northwest at 13 mph. 


Oct. 13, 4:58 p.m.

Tropical Storm Gonzalo has developed into a hurricane, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm has maximum sustained winds of 75 mph, which makes it a Category 1 Hurricane, according to NHC.

The storm is still forecast to stay out to sea. Additional strengthening is likely. 


Oct. 13, 7:47 a.m.

Tropical Storm Gonzalo is expected to pass through the Leeward Islands today and is expected to be a hurricane by Tuesday, according to the National Hurricane Center.

The storm has maximum sustained winds of 60 mph and is moving west at 10 mph, according to authorities.

Its track keeps the storm out in the Atlantic, making the turn west of the Bahamas.
