VERO BEACH — After participating as a star dancer in the 2014’s Dancing with Vero’s Stars (DWVS), Tim Girard, of Girard Equipment, Inc., and his dance instructor, Amy Trammell, of Vero Classical Ballet, discussed the many benefits of dance training that Girard was experiencing firsthand.
Girard was able to watch classes that Trammell and her husband, Barry, taught at Vero Classical Ballet and see the impact on the self-esteem and self-confidence of the dance studio’s students.
After DWVS, Girard and Trammell kept in touch and regularly discussed Vero Classical Ballet and its students. It was then that the idea for Girls on Pointe was born. The program will allow local residents and business owners to sponsor partial scholarships for deserving dancers at the school.
Nadia Flores, age 7, has been named as the first recipient of the Girls on Pointe Scholarship. Flores has been a student at Vero Classical Ballet for two and a half years, during which she has proven to be immensely talented and focused. She can next be seen in Vero Classical Ballet’s 7th Annual production of the Traditional Nutcracker Ballet, where she will be performing a small solo.
The Nutcracker Ballet will hold two performances on Saturday, Nov. 29th at the Vero Beach High School Performing Arts Center.
If anyone in the community is interested in sponsoring a dancer, please contact Jody Sause at Girard Equipment at (800)-526-4330 for more information. For Nutcracker tickets or more information, please visit www.veroclassicalballet.com/nutcracker.
