INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — VeroNews.com and Vero Beach 32963 Media publisher Milton R. Benjamin accepted the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge and issued a challenge of his own Friday afternoon.
Scripps Indian River Press Journal publisher Bob Brunjes issued the challenge to Benjamin Thursday afternoon, giving him 24 hours to either take part in the Ice Bucket Challenge or make a donation.
Benjamin opted to do both – and more.
In addition to supporting the ALS effort to find a cure for Lou Gehrig’s Disease, Benjamin announced a $500 donation to Ethan Hendon, an 8-year-old local boy raising funds to help defray expenses associated with a desperately needed heart transplant.
Benjamin then issued the ALS Ice Bucket Challenge to the city managers of the three cities VeroNews.com and the soon-to-launch Vero News weekly paper serves – Jim O’Connor of Vero Beach, Joe Griffin of Sebastian, and Jason Nunemaker of Fellsmere.
“Gentlemen, you now have 24 hours,” Benjamin said.
So far, Griffin has committed to making a donation and Nunemaker has pledged to take on the ice bucket. O’Connor did not immediately respond to the challenge.
Along with VeroNews.com, Vero Beach 32963, and the soon-to-launch Vero News paper, Benjamin publishes the weekly Sebastian River News.
