Crash last week leads to one dead

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — A crash that happened July 8 at 69th Street and 58th Avenue has led to the death of one of the drivers, according to Florida High Way Patrol.

Alfred Rothfuss, 83, of Vero Beach, died July 12 after being involved in a crash with Jeffrey Ledford, 33, of Sebastian, according to the report, which was released Monday evening.

Ledford is listed in critical condition. His passenger, Torrie Bobo, 35, of Vero Beach, is listed in serious condition.

Ledford, in his 2003 Kia Spectra, was heading eastbound on 69th Street approaching 58th Avenue, according to FHP. Rothfuss, in his 2004 Nissan Murano, was traveling southbound on 58th Avenue approaching the intersection of 69th Street. Ledford had the flashing red traffic light, and Rothfuss had a flashing yellow traffic light.

Ledford failed to stop, according to FHP. As a result, his car struck the right side of Rothfuss’ vehicle. All occupants were transported to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center.

Ledford was the only occupant not wearing a seatbelt.
