CR 512 opened after gas leak in Fellsmere forced closure, evacuation

FELLSMERE— Workers are being let back into the Florida Organic Aquaculture facility after a gas leak was caused during construction, according to authorities. County Road 512 is also being opened after being closed around 10 a.m.


July 7, 10:54 a.m. – FELLSMERE — The gas has been turned off after a leak was caused during construction at Florida Aquaculture, according to Fellsmere Police Department.

County Road 512 remains closed in the area of the facility, according to authorities.

Because it is a four inch line instead of a two inch line, workers from Florida City Gas are saying they can not fix it immediately. 


July 7, 10 a.m. – FELLSMERE — A gas line broken during construction at Florida Organic Aquaculture has closed County Road 512 in Fellsmere, according to authorities. 

There has only been evacuations of construction workers, no residents have been evacuated according to law enforcement.

The pipe was not marked properly according to a construction worker on scene. Crews are currently trying to shut off the gas at a second valve, the first was too deep underground. 

CR 512 is closed north of State Road 60 and at Myrtle Street in Fellsmere.

There have been no injuries. The Indian River County Fire department is assessing the scene.
