William Taylor Courtney, 92, of Vero Beach

William Taylor Courtney, born Feb. 21, 1922, in Chickasha, Okla., the only child of Mahlon and Ruth Courtney, died June 22, 2014, at Grace Rehabilitation Center in Vero Beach.

Bill lived in Vero Beach since 1970 coming from Hanscom Air Force Base in Massachusetts.

Before retirement, he had 28 years in the Air Force. He served during World War II, The Korean War and his last was a year in the Vietnam War where he received The Bronze Star Medal.

He retired at Patrick Air Force Base in 1973 with the rank of Lt. Colonel.

Bill attended Murray College in Tishomingo, Okla., and graduated from The United States Military Academy on D-Day 1944. He also attended Command and Staff School in Montgomery, Ala.

Bill was a lifetime member of The Retired Officers’ Association; Realtor with C/I Realty and Christ By The Sea United Methodist Church.

Survivors include his wife of 68 years, Eudora “Pat” Courtney; three children Bob (Donna) Courtney, Barbara Courtney, and Phyllis Courtney; four grandchildren, Rob Kader (Laura), Krista Courtney, and Lelia and Kai DeLeon; and two great-grandchildren, Sylvia and Rob Kader.

A memorial service will be held 11:30 a.m., Saturday, June 28, 2014, at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach with Chaplain Richard Flick officiating. Interment with military honors will be in Arlington National Cemetery, Arlington, Va., at a later date.
