SEBASTIAN — Works by award-winning Sebastian photographer Greg Hills will be on display through the month of May at Inlet Wines and Brew, as part of the Sebastian River Art Club’s public art program. An opening reception will be held Friday May 9 at 6 p.m.
Born on the island of Tasmania, Australian photographer Greg Hills had been intrigued with photography from an early age. Greg’s passion for photography was further ignited during his many years as a ship’s captain, which enabled him to capture his experiences on film as he traveled to exotic and interesting locations.
Now retired from the sea and dividing his time between homes in Cartagena, Columbia, and Sebastian, he is devoting himself fully to his photography.
Graduating from “Darkroom to Digital,” Greg Hills is a perfectionist when it comes to the use and manipulation of light and shadow.
Glistening ambers, deep blue-blacks and sun-drenched lush flora, all seemingly captured at their apex of beauty in dramatic light and shadow are his trademark. Greg prints his photographs on his own printing equipment, which enables him to have complete control over the process, resulting in a more perfect photographic product.
Using high-resolution digital files and the finest archival papers and inks, Greg’s prints reveal spectacular detail and gorgeous gradients with smooth, clean, vivid colors.
With an artist’s eye for composition and a burning drive for beauty and perfection in photography – from shutter to framing – Greg consistently produces images which have been dazzling the viewing public along the Treasure Coast since his arrival here in 2013.
“A photograph to me is more than just a picture,” says Greg. “It’s a feeling and a mood one experiences at the time of capture, inspiring you to grab that image and take it home to keep and treasure … and eventually also to share this experience with others in the form of a beautifully rendered photograph.”
