The Source needs volunteers

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Source helps the poor and homeless of Vero Beach in many ways. Last year, The Source served over 47,000 meals to families and individuals in need, and while their drop-in center is fully staffed, it is their front desk and thrift shop that are in immediate need of committed, compassionate volunteers.

“On any given day, we help over 100 people,” according to Dona Alexander, The Source Programs Director and Acting Volunteer Coordinator. “We’re in need of a receptionist – to be the voice and face of our organization on Tuesdays and Thursdays. This is where the relationship with each client begins. Volunteers have a great opportunity to mentor and positively impact the lives of those in need by greeting visitors, answering phones, and interacting with clients.”

As for the newly reorganized and updated Thrift Shop, located at 1239 16th St., Vero Beach, it is an integral part of The Source ministry.

Donations and purchases turn into a cash gift that goes directly towards the work of The Source. Aggie Sydnor, The Source and Thrift Shop Director of Operations, says she is looking for “anyone who is willing to help with receiving and sorting donations, mornings or afternoons. Our sales floor can also use some help.”

The Source is the only drop-in outreach ministry in Indian River County that serves as a cold weather shelter, opens six days a week, provides hot meals, emergency food boxes, clothing, basic hygiene items, showers and laundering facilities, mail and phone services, job readiness programs, cooperative community agency referrals, and restorative hope in the saving faith of Jesus Christ.

They are located at 1015 Commerce Ave., Vero Beach. Learn more by visiting www.IAmTheSource.org.
