Quail Valley Charities supports Fellsmere Boys and Girls Club with grant

VERO BEACH — Members of the Fellsmere Boys & Girls Club are beneficiaries of the most recent display of generosity from Quail Valley Charities. As part of a $20,000 grant, the children will participate in the renowned Project Learn program and will have access to the Stride Academy educational software program.

The Project Learn program is the cornerstone from which all Boys & Girls Clubs programs are built. Research strongly suggests that positive learning opportunities during the non-school hours have a substantial effect on the learning pattern through a young person’s life.

Project Learn was designed to engage young people in learning, encourage them to succeed in school, and help them become lifelong learners. When children arrive at the Clubs after school, they immediately move into a component of Project Learn. The program focuses on homework help and tutoring, participation in high-yield learning and leisure activities, increased parent/guardian participation in school work, direct collaboration with the schools, and enhanced techniques for goal setting and recognizing achievements.

The Stride Academy program is designed for children between the ages of Pre-K through grade 12. It diagnoses individual students’ strengths and skill gaps on common core and state standards, then automatically scaffolds curriculum up or down to accelerate or remediate the student accordingly. It helps Club professionals tailor homework help and tutoring to each child’s needs and easily pinpoints the children who are in need of more focused and individualized help. Stride Academy incorporates fun into learning, making it a program Club members truly enjoy and look forward to participating in.

The Boys & Gils Clubs of Indian River County is incredibly grateful for the ongoing support of Quail Valley Charities.

“For more than 10 years, Quail Valley has supported the work of the Clubs in our community with program grant donations totaling almost $200,000,” said Elizabeth Thomason, executive director. “This grant to the Fellsmere Club is transformational. Many of our families do not speak English at home, making help with homework nearly impossible. Project Learn and Stride Academy will have an immediate impact on our Club members, and will dramatically increase their chance for success.”

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need it the most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. They operate three Clubs, one each in Vero Beach, Sebastian, and Fellsmere, all within a school bus ride to every child in the county.

More than 1,500 children in our community are served by the Clubs annually, equipping them with the tools necessary to succeed in school and in life.
