Malone Memorial STEM grant requests due May 1

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The Education Foundation of Indian River County (EF-IRC) is pleased to announce the receipt of a grant from the Clint S. Malone Memorial Fund of the Indian River Community Foundation. These grant dollars will be used to fund proposals to develop projects and programs focused on STEM education to improve the level of STEM instruction in Indian River County and to prepare students for careers in high-tech vocations.

The grants will honor the memory and legacy of the late Clint S. Malone. Mr. Malone was tragically killed by a drunk driver on Oct. 13, 2007, while riding his bike next to his wife, Jennifer, in Panama City Beach, Fla.

Mr. Malone had a great passion for education. He loved to read, write and excelled in mathematics. He also enjoyed playing golf with his friends and swimming. Mr. Malone believed the key to success was to have confidence in one’s self and to develop strong social skills.

The EF-IRC will offer the Clint S. Malone Memorial Grants under their Great Ideas! Grant Program. Public and private primary and secondary schools in Indian River County may apply for grants from $2,500 up to $5,000. The total available funding is $5,000.

The grant guidelines and applications are available on the Education Foundation website: www.edfoundationirc.org.

All proposals are due May 1, 2014. Grant recipients will be notified by May 19, 2014.

Recipients will be invited to a special press conference. All funds are to be used during the 2014-2015 school year. Selected projects must align with the school district or independent school STEM goals and must deliver measurable outcomes associated with achieving these objectives.
