‘Beethoven’s Fifth’ coming March 2 to Vero Beach Performing Arts Center

VERO BEACH — The Space Coast Symphony Orchestra will feature the dramatic “Beethoven’s Fifth” at 7 p.m. on Sunday, March 2, at the Vero Beach Performing Arts Center, 1707 16th St.

Aaron Collins leads a program anchored by Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony, a work universally regarded as the pinnacle of the Classical symphonic art form. The program opens with the Hebrides Overture, a work conceived by Mendelssohn’s Scottish trip and his visit to Fingal’s Cave, which inspired his musical representation of the eerie sounds produced by the echoes of waves.

Artistic Director Aaron T. Collins knew this was one program the SCSO just had to do.

“When people think Classical music, they think Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony,” said Collins. “There’s a reason for that. The incredible power and majesty of this work makes it unforgettable.”

Also sharing space on the program is Sebelius’ Karelia Suite, drawn from the folk music of Finland. But few pieces in the history of music have achieved the iconic power and reputation of Beethoven’s Fifth Symphony. Beethoven at his best, the Fifth Symphony has remained one of the most popular pieces in classical music for more than 200 years.

Advance tickets are $20 and available through the orchestra website at www.SpaceCoastSymphony.org or at several convenient ticket outlets, including Marine Bank & Trust (beachside and mainland branches) and Madison Avenue Consignments.
