American Themes take center stage in ACO’s Feb. 22, 23 concerts

VERO BEACH — The Atlantic Classical Orchestra continues its partnership with the Vero Beach Museum of Art in an exciting collaboration this Feb. 22 and 23 with the second program in its 2014 Chamber Series.

The concerts, with their reciprocal programs held at the attractive John F. Armstrong wing of the Blake Library in Stuart and the Leonhardt Auditorium of the beautiful Vero Beach Museum of Art, will feature the Atlantic Classical Orchestra Chamber Music Players in a program of piano trio works by three American composers (Charles Wakefield Cadman, Amy Beach, and Paul Schoenfield) connecting to the Museum’s upcoming exhibition, “Picturing America: Signature Works from The Westmoreland Museum of American Art.”

“The connections between the musical works in this program and the exhibition’s art works is fascinating,” said internationally acclaimed conductor and ACO Artistic Director Stewart Robertson, who leads these intimate concerts. “From Cadman’s Piano Trio in D, composed in the late 19th century Central European romantic tradition and a harbinger of the style of music that Gershwin and others would make popular, to Amy Beach’s romantic and impressionistic Piano Trio, to Paul Schoenfield’s Cafe Music commissioned by the St. Paul Chamber Orchestra and inspired by folk traditions and his stint as a house pianist in Minneapolis, Minnesota, these concerts offer something for everyone, and give an intriguing insight into American music during the 20th century.”
