Groups request input on mental health services in Indian River County

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The National Alliance on Mental Illness of Indian River County, in partnership with the Mental Health Collaborative of Indian River County, is hosting a public forum to discuss the future of the mental health continuum of care in Indian River County. The meeting will be held 6-8 p.m., Tue., Feb. 11 at the United Way Center, 1836 14th Ave., Vero Beach.

The discussion will be facilitated by Michael Felix, a community health development specialist, who is helping the Mental Health Collaborative create a strategic plan to improve the delivery of mental health services. The Mental Health Collaborative was founded 10 years ago and has grown to include over 25 members representing private and public funders, mental health providers and individuals who work in collaboration to increase access, decrease duplication and facilitate community wide support of mental health issues.

Lisa Kahle is the program administrator of the organization, which utilizes the United Way as its fiscal agent.

“Our goal is to gather as much input as possible from the community to understand the challenges people have in accessing mental health care in Indian River County,” Kahle said. “The Mental Health Collaborative members will then use this information to guide our discussion as we prioritize and determine the most effective solutions.”
