GoLine Bus crash in Vero Beach sends 11 to hospitals

VERO BEACH — A crash involving a GoLine bus and a van on 37th Street in Vero Beach sent 11 of the 16 passengers to local hospitals around 10 a.m., according to Indian River County Fire Rescue.

The crash happened just west of the HealthSouth Treasure Coast Rehabilitation Hospital near 17th Avenue.

Several passengers complained of back pain and were transported to Indian River Medical Center.

The passengers not transported refused medical attention or walked away. The “walking wounded” were transported to the Sebastian Medical Center, according to the emergency channel.

Helena Hayes, 80, of Vero Beach, was driving a Chrysler Town & Country west when she hit the back of a GoLine Bus while it stopped for a few seconds, according to Deputy Wolfgang Weber.

“I saw it, but…” said Hayes.

Hayes was not cited in the incident.
