VERO BEACH — Eye witnesses of a crash scene along A-1-A at Castaway Cove over the weekend described the sight as horrific and questioned how anyone could have survived.
They said the engine to the SUV involved in the wreck had been pushed back into the passenger compartment.
However, according to a report from the Vero Beach Police Department, the wreck involving a pickup truck and the SUV was not fatal, but did send one person to Lawnwood Regional Medical Center to be treated for traumatic injuries.
The crash happened around 10 p.m. at Castaway Boulevard when Thomas Hammond, who was southbound on A1A, tried to turn into the development from A1A. According to the crash report, Hammond didn’t see Myron Quan’s SUV traveling north on A1A, approaching the intersection.
Hammond’s truck collided with Quan’s SUV. Hammond told officers Quan’s vehicle came out of nowhere and he never saw it.
Hammond was cited for careless driving, according to authorities. Quan was transported to Lawnwood Medical Center for traumatic injuries. He was listed as stable.
