INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Former N.Y. Congressman Otis Pike passed away in Vero Beach on Monday at the age of 92.
Pike will be remembered for his 18-year stint representing N.Y. in the House of Representatives from 1960 to 1978 and his leadership in investigating the effectiveness of the CIA, extraneous tax payer expenses caused by the CIA, and the CIA’s alleged involvement in domestic spying activities in the 1970s.
After years of plowing ahead in examining the CIA, his committee’s final “Pike Report” was voted to be kept secret by the House of Representatives.
Later, the report was leaked to the Village Voice of New York and published. The source of the leak remains a mystery today.
Following his career in Congress, Pike spent two decades as a columnist for Newsday and the Newhouse Newspapers.
Retired to Vero Beach, Pike was a long-time resident of the Moorings.
Pike was preceded in death by his first wife, Doris Orth, and a son, Robert. He is survived by his second wife, Barbe Bonjour Pike, daughter, Lois Pike Eyre, son Douglas Pike, and two grandchildren.
