INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Board of Commissioners unanimously approved all five items on its consent agenda at Tuesday’s meeting without discussion, including applying for a lagoon grant project and ratifying membership of an economic development committee.
The Commission gave approval to the Utilities Department to apply for the Indian River Lagoon National Estuary Grant Program. The application will come at no initial cost to the county.
If the grant is awarded, the county “may have to participate in an amount not to exceed $30,000 to $35,000 as the Counties share,” according to the provided memorandum. Those funds will be provided through the Utility Operating Fund 471.
The grant application will be targeted at potential total maximum daily load reductions of pollutants for projects at the West Regional Wastewater Treatment Plant’s wetland treatment system, according to the memorandum.
The Commission also approved the Treasure Coast Regional Planning Council’s request to ratify its current five members of the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy Committee for a one-year appointment. Current members include Mark Mathes, Rich Stringer, Helene Caseltine, Randy Riley, and Glenn Heran.
According to the memorandum provided, all members have been previously contacted and expressed interest in being reappointed for another year.
