Frederick “Fritz” A. Scharfschwerdt, Sr., 88, Vero Beach

Frederick “Fritz” A. Scharfschwerdt, Sr., 88, died Nov. 3, 2013, at Indian River Medical Center in Vero Beach.

Scharfschwerdt was born in Fort Pierce and lived in Vero Beach for 49 years coming from his birth place.

He attended Dan McCarty High School in Fort Pierce.

Scharfschwerdt was a veteran having served in the United States Navy during World War II.

He was a supervisor for the Indian River County Road and Bridge Department for fifteen years before his retirement in 1999.

Survivors include his wife of 32 years, Norma Jean Scharfschwerdt, of Vero Beach; children, Laura Harbour (John), of Smyrna, Ga., Lynne Glass, of Vero Beach, Anna Fuller (Dan), of Fort Pierce, Randy Perkuhn, of Ann Arbor, Mich., Lisa Hodges (Ron), of Kennesaw, Ga., Rick Scharfschwerdt, of Vero Beach, Tamara Perkuhn, of Ann Arbor, Mich., Jim Scharfschwerdt, of Vero Beach and Barb Bodnar (Michael), of Vero Beach; 18 grandchildren, their spouses; and 15 great- grandchildren.

Scharfschwerdt was preceded in death by his first wife, Barbara Hibbert Scharfschwerdt and his six brothers and sisters.

Visitation was held from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m., Saturday, November 9, 2013 at Strunk Funeral Home, Vero Beach.

A memorial service will be held 10:30 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 9, 2013, at Strunk Funeral Home with Rev. Michael Carter officiating.

Military honors will be conducted by the United States Navy Honor Guard.

Interment will be take place at a later date in Riverview Memorial Park, Ft. Pierce.
