Inaugural Celebrate the Arts Festival

VERO BEACH — Excitement for the Inaugural Celebrate the Arts Festival continues to build with participants enthusiastically sharing their planned activities for that special day. The festival, which is being organized by the Cultural Council of Indian River County (CCIRC,) will be held on Saturday, Sept. 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., at Riverside Park in Vero Beach.

The Atlantic Classical Orchestra (ACO) will be offering a rare opportunity for the public to actually hold and feel a musical instrument at the ACO’s Musical Instrument Petting Zoo.

ACO Director Anne Berquist’s eyes sparkled when she spoke about teaching the general public how to hold and understand the beautiful instruments that are played by members of the Atlantic Classical Orchestra.

Sebastian High School Band Instructor Sara Dipardo also lit up with enthusiasm when she and her students from the Caribbean Steel Band demonstrated the music that they will be playing at the Celebrate the Arts Festival.

Whether they are a Hammerhead or a Mako, each Caribbean Steel Band member will don his/her island attire while playing the steel drums that were handmade in Trinidad. Guaranteed to make the crowd move and smile, the steel band will provide musical entertainment that day playing some calypso favorites.

Adding to the musical entertainment at Celebrate the Arts Festival will be professional bagpipers Michael Hyde and Jack Anderson.

The Vero Beach Art Club will feature 20 of the club’s artists who will take turns demonstrating various forms of visual art from wood carving to paintings.

Mary Ellen Koser, President of the Vero Beach Art Club, feels that this festival will be the perfect opportunity to not only share club members’ talents, but also to inform the public of the Art Club’s upcoming events.

With over 450 members and dating back to its inception in 1936, the Vero Beach Art Club plays host to many cultural events around town.

The Cultural Council of Indian River County (CCIRC) is a 501(C)3 not-for-profit membership based organization that provides cultural information and education to the public.
