My first impression of facebook’s new “graph search” is that it will bring personality to the way we search for anything on the internet.
As I dive further into reading about this new function, it also seems like it will be a powerful tool where people will get “word of mouth” opinions on a variety of subjects.
The next use for it, which I’m really excited about, is the ability to find content that you have put on facebook. This is great, especially after years and years of publishing content on facebook.
According to Mark Zuckerberg, facebook founder and CEO, graph search is going to be another main “pillar” like the newsfeed or timeline.
“On facebook when you do the same searches we get completely different sets of results because the depth of personalization that we do,” said Kari Lee, engineering manager after comparing graph search to web search.
In my opinion, this will inject personality into search, instead of computers spitting out results based on the words you use.
“Most people today don’t think about facebook as a place to discover places where they could go eat,” said Zuckerberg. “With this product it’s so natural to do that.”
