McKee Botanical Garden announces winners

VERO BEACH — Dozens of photographers along the Treasure Coast contributed their most captivating images of waterlilies for McKee’s fourth annual Waterlily Photo Contest.

More than 130 photo submissions featuring waterlilies photographed at McKee Botanical Garden in 2012 and 2013 were entered and classified into the contest’s three judged categories: Color, Black and White, and Manipulated.

A first, second, and third place winner was determined in each of the categories along with two honorable mentions. Additionally, visitors to McKee’s Waterlily Celebration on June 15 were able to vote for their “People’s Choice” favorite. Number of votes determined the first and second place winners.

Winners also were selected in the Youth category that was newly added to this year’s contest.

Youth

1st Place Manipulated – Logan Racine, age 17 “Lily in the Dark”

1st Place Black & White – Mia Arrington, age 7 “In the Light”

People’s Choice

1st – Katherine Tucker “Trinity”

2nd – Logan Racine “Lily in the Dark”

First place winners received an annual family membership to McKee; second place winners received four guest passes to the Garden; third place winners received a pair of guest passes, and honorable mention winners got to have their photos featured with the other winners on the McKee website and Facebook page.

Serving as judge for the contest was Louis Ciszek, a former professional photographer and founding member of the Indian River Photo Club.

Ciszek has judged a number of art and photography exhibitions throughout the area including the annual juried photo exhibition at the Vero Beach Museum of Art.
