PALM BEACH – The Florida Society of Ophthalmology (FSO,) the preeminent professional association for medical and osteopathic physicians who specializes in vision care, is pleased to announce that William J. Mallon, MD is the recipient of the John R. Brayton, Jr., MD, Leadership Award, presented at its annual meeting, Masters in Ophthalmology, held June 28-30 in Palm Beach.
Established in honor of John R. Brayton, MD, this annual award recognizes a Florida-based ophthalmologist who exemplifies leadership and dedication to the profession.
Dr. Mallon served as president of the FSO from 2011-2012 and currently serves as the Membership Chair. During his term as president, Dr. Mallon was instrumental in defeating legislation that threatened to harm Florida’s patients.
His leadership during the 2012 legislative session helped lay the foundation that was built upon this year that ultimately led to the enactment of necessary patient safeguards into law.
Since 2003, Dr. Mallon has practiced at the Center for Advanced Eye Care in Vero Beach.
Dr. Mallon earned his undergraduate degree from Michigan State University and his medical degree from the Wayne State University School of Medicine.
He completed his internship at Methodist Hospital in Memphis, TN, and his ophthalmology residency at the University of Tennessee. He also completed a fellowship in ophthalmic plastic and reconstructive surgery at Ophthalmic Plastic Surgical Associates in Memphis, TN.
He earned his board certification from the American Academy of Ophthalmology in 2000.
