August W. Barberi , of Vero Beach, died June 24, 2013, in Manchester.
He was born on November 23, 1930 and grew up in Jersey City, where he later opened his certified accounting firm.
He graduated from St. Peter’s Prep and St. Peter’s University in Jersey City.
He served in the Army during the Korean War.
In addition to his accounting practice, he was adjunct professor at Brookdale College, director of Meadowlands National Bank, a Rotary Club member, on the Board of Trustee for Hudson Hamilton Council BSA, YMCA of Jersey City, Fairmount Hospital, North Hudson Hospital, Palisades Medical Center and was currently serving as Trustee and Treasurer of Bayview New York Bay Cemetery of Jersey City.
He was also a member of the Moorings Club of Vero Beach.
He was predeceased by his parents, Augustus and Judith (Casazza); his first wife and mother of his daughters, Janet Fitzgerald Barberi; and his beloved daughter, Linda Kuruc.
Survivors include his wife, Linda Barberi; his daughter, Janet Ficara and husband John; his son-in-law, Mathew Kuruc; and step-sons, Darrin and Christopher Dickerson; grandchildren, Chad Ficara and fiancé Lauren Keller; Brooke Ficara; Allison Kuruc, Andrea Kuruc; and step- grandchildren, Cassidy, Cody, Malea and Cein Dickerson; his sister-in-law Carol Novak; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visitation was 2-4 p.m. & 7-9 p.m. Wednesday, June 26 at Oliverie Funeral Home, 2925 Ridgeway Road, Manchester, NJ 08759.
A mass of Christian burial was 9:15 AM Thursday, June 27th at St. Luke’s Church, Toms River.
Interment will be private.
