Indian River Sheriff’s Office sex crimes unit joins twitter

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Indian River County Sheriff’s Sexual Predator and Offender Tracking (SPOT) Unit has joined twitter.

The twitter account is twitter.com/IRCSOSPOT.

The unit will be tweeting notifications when registered sexual offenders and predators move into and within Indian River County, according to the Sheriff’s Office.

Each tweet will contain a link to the offender’s or predator’s Florida Department of Law Enforcement’s (FDLE) online/public profile.

Those who have already liked the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office facebook page began receiving these notifications earlier this week.

The Sheriff’s Office can be found on facebook at www.facebook.com/ircsheriff.

“Community safety is of paramount importance to the members of the Indian River County Sheriff’s Office,” said Sheriff Deryl Loar. “In our continuing efforts to keep the public informed, we have enhanced our use of social media to distribute media releases, community events, and public notices. The implementation of twitter is an example of our dedication to public awareness through the use of technology.”
