CAMERA: Weather gear – Do you own it or do you stay inside?

One of the first things I bought when I took a job in Florida in 2005 was a nice rain cover. Little did I know something I kept in my car through the summer months made of plastic would last eight years.

Thankfully it did. I use the Kata E-702 model and it’s never failed me in the rain. I shoot in monsoon conditions for sporting events, and it’s been protecting my gear in every tropical storm/hurricane I’ve covered.

Even when I was totally drenched, wearing a trench coat and boots that connect up past the ankle, it still kept my main rig dry.

Granted, I have not used the newest version yet, but I’m sure it will do the trick.

The only thing I don’t like about this 2.0 version is that it Velcros at the bottom instead of having two zippers that zip toward the center.

I doubt this will be a big deal because the way I shoot, if I think I’m going to need it, it’s already on the camera.

So how to you protect your gear in inclement weather? Do you use rain gear, a trash bag, an umbrella, or do you just choose to take photos on nice weather days?
