SEBASTIAN — On April 6, over 100 happy bikers pulled into the Sebastian Eagles Clubhouse to see who had the winning hand for the 2nd Annual Charity Poker Run to benefit SunUp ARC and The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center.
The winning poker hand of the day was a straight. But the real winners of the day were SunUp ARC and The Fraternal Order of Eagles Diabetes Research Center.
“This charity event couldn’t happen without our committee and the many volunteers,” said Bennie Colson, President of the Sebastian Eagle Riders.
“It’s really awesome seeing so many nice people having a fun time and helping us to raise money to help our friends,” added Patricia Moody, chair of the Advocacy Committee.
Special thanks go out to: the Randy Skirvin Band for keeping the party hopping, all the wonderful “cooks” who kept the crowd happy with their festive food, the many caring businesses that donated auction items, and most importantly, the incredible, tireless volunteers who worked so hard to put on and run this event.
At a special presentation at the Sebastian Eagles Aerie #4067 on May 25, the Sebastian Eagle Riders presented SunUp ARC Executive Director Chuck Bradley with a check for $7,200, and Diabetes Research with a check for $5,800.
“We are so pleased to have been chosen as one of the Sebastian Inlet Eagles Riders’ charities. This is an incredible giving, caring organization, and we look forward to a longlasting relationship,” said Bradley.
The highlights of the presentation were when David Zukowski and Charlie Redstone presented Patricia Moody and Scott Zukowski with their own Sebastian Eagle Riders leather jackets and declared them honorary members of the club.
“These two young individuals exemplify why the Eagle Riders are so adamant about helping their organizations,” explained Bennie Colson.
SunUp ARC operates on three campuses, two in Vero Beach and one in Sebastian, providing much needed services for individuals with special needs. SunUp ARC is a non-profit, 501(c)3 agency and is a United Way partner agency.
