VB Museum of Art offers free admission May 18

VERO BEACH — The Vero Beach Museum of Art has announced that it will offer free admission on Saturday, May 18, as part of the Association of Art Museum Directors’ (AAMD) Art Museum Day (coinciding with International Museum Day.)

Last year, The VBMA, along with more than 120 other AAMD member art museums across North America, will be participating in Art Museum Day.

“Art museums bring communities together and engage people of every background in the shared exploration of human expression across time and cultures,” said Chris Anagnos, Executive Director of AAMD.

“AAMD is so pleased that the Vero Beach Museum of Art is joining us in celebrating Art Museum Day and encouraging everyone on the Treasure Coast to participate and share their experiences in a public forum,” added Anagnos.

The AAMD encourages visitors of all ages to share their experiences of Art Museum Day through social media. Last year’s event prompted an outpouring of responses with tweets, “check-ins” via FourSquare, and personal responses from across North America; please continue the conversation this year by sharing your perspectives via social media with the hashtag #artmuseumday.

Art Museum Day emphasizes the essential role that art museums play in their communities, highlights the value of the visual arts in society, and provides new opportunities for audiences to participate in the wide-ranging programs offered by AAMD member museums.

The Vero Beach Museum of Art will be open on Art Museum Day from 10 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. offering free admission to the art exhibitions: THE GOLDEN AGE OF EUROPEAN PAINTING FROM THE SPEED ART MUSEUM; KATHARINE HEPBURN: Dressed for Stage and Screen, RECYCLED REALITY: Pablo Cano’s Marionettes, and Selections from the Permanent Collection (in the Stark Gallery and Beckwith Sculpture Parks;) as well as the INDIAN RIVER COUNTY JURIED STUDENT EXHIBITION (Patricia M. Patten Community Gallery.)

A new kids program called Turtle Tours will be available on Art Museum Day from 11 a.m. until 12:15 p.m. at a cost of $5 per child for non-members, but free for VBMA family members. Preregistration is required for these mini guided tours designed for PreK and primary (ages 3-6) kids accompanied by adults.

Like turtles, participants will slowly look at art together as well as pose, dance, and pretend. Then kids do a hands-on art activity and learn about many ways to make art.
