Natural gas provider to pay franchise fee to county for service

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Florida City Gas, the natural gas provider in Indian River County, will now have to pay a 6 percent franchise fee to the county for using the county’s rights of way for its pipes.

Until now, natural gas was the only utility not paying a franchise fee. Instead, it paid permit and user fees for any work it had to do within the county’s rights of way – an amount totaling $14,000 annually.

The franchise fee is expected to generate between $15,000 and $30,000 annually to the county.
