Vero woman charged with manslaughter, neglect and forgery

INDIAN RIVER SHORES — Gina Marie Albrecht, 37, of the Vero Beach Highlands was arrested and charged Wednesday in the homicide of 81-year-old George W. May Jr. of Indian River Shores.

May died at his home on Oct. 24, 2012 after being in the care of Albrecht, a Certified Nursing Assistant, for more than a year. According to public records, prosecutors allege that Albrecht moved into May’s home and fraudulently took control of his finances – later leaving him alone to die after his health failed.

In addition to the felony charges of aggravated manslaughter and neglect of an elderly person, Albrecht is accused of forgery and using May’s identity to rob him of cash and other assets.

Albrecht is being held on a $205,000 bond at the Indian River County Jail.
