Youth Sailing Foundation to benefit from Moorings Club event

VERO BEACH — The Moorings Yacht Club would like to invite you to the 3rd Annual Wheels and Keels Antique/ Exotic Car and Boat Show, to be held the weekend of April 19-21 at the Moorings Club.

In addition to showcasing some of the most unique cars and boats in the area on Saturday, there is a very special surprise this year. “PosH,” a 52’ 1937 Mahogany Cruiser designed by John Hacker and owned and lovingly restored by Todd Warner, will be on exhibit at this exciting celebration of exotic cars and boats.

Cruises on “PosH” will be available Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for those who want to enjoy a once in a lifetime experience.

On Sunday morning, a Fun Car Rally will start at the Moorings Club and end with lunch and awards at the Youth Sailing Facility.

The Saturday show is open to the public.

Proceeds from Wheels and Keels will benefit the Youth Sailing Foundation of Indian River County, an all volunteer organization dedicated to enabling children ages 7-15 to learn to sail. The program has allowed well more than one hundred children from all walks of life to learn and compete equally.

Sailing takes kids outdoors; away from computers, cell phones, and TV. Learning to sail builds self esteem, confidence, decision making, and the ability to communicate and interact with others.

The Youth Sailing Foundation is only a few years old and has already accumulated 30 Optimist sailboats. 61% of those boats have been donated for the use of children who cannot afford their own boat.

With the great success in popularity of the Youth Sailing, the program has created a challenge. Volunteers cannot continue to teach kids to sail and also find the extra time to raise the funds necessary to continue the program.

The Moorings Yacht Club is helping by presenting the Wheels & Keels event to raise funds for Youth Sailing.
