As I’ve grown up, I’ve sent letters, emails, instant messages, tweets, and now I message through facebook. As some of our readers head back north I would suggest using facebook as the easiest platform to stay in touch with friends, organizations, and news until you’re back next season.
My mom, who is still in northern Indiana, fought joining facebook with a passion. She is now updating her status and commenting on other’s updates.
But, as soon as she learned I was going to have my first child, her third grandchild, she reconsidered.
It also helped that I created her account with the proper privacy settings.
Social media is also a great way for snowbirds to stay in touch with friends and the happenings of the Indian River County area. A good number of the businesses and fellow snowbirds are already on social media.
It’s not as scary as you would think and in my opinion, it helps you stay in touch easily with friends. Granted, some things that are posted by some of your friends you’d rather not see, but that too is a process of setting up how much information you would like to view from your connections through social media.
There are also classes to teach your about this way of staying connected with friends and family.
