INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — As the saying goes, children are one third of our population and all of our future. In order to celebrate children and highlight the critical issues that they face, a grassroots event called Children’s Week is coordinated every year throughout Florida.
Held from April 7–12, the 18th annual Children’s Week develops and implements more than 200 community events and activities statewide, bringing thousands of parents, children, policy makers, professionals, community leaders, and concerned citizens together to share valuable knowledge and information about children’s issues in each community across the state and at the State Capitol.
The Early Learning Coalition of Indian River, Martin, and Okeechobee Counties received a proclamation from the Indian River Board of County Commissioners declaring April 7–12 as “Children’s Week” in Indian River County.
In celebration of Children’s Week, local municipalities will be hosting public events and activities for parents and children throughout their communities. The purpose of Children’s Week is to create a shared vision of the state of Florida’s commitment to its children and families and to develop and implement strategies for moving this shared vision forward.
“As advocates for the children of the Treasure Coast, it is our goal to bring to light the issues facing our most vulnerable residents. We hope that the community will join us in developing solutions that will promote the education, health, safety, and well-being of children and families in Florida,” said Jacki Jackson, Executive Director of Early Learning Coalition.
