Gallery 14 presents A Celebration of Cuban Artists

VERO BEACH — Gallery 14 will be presenting the Cuban art collection of Clyde Hensley, guest curator for the month of April.

Mr. Hensley has been visiting artists in Cuba for the past 25 years, bringing them paints, canvases, and other supplies.

He created an artist exchange program, the “Eastern Cuba Cultural Exchange,” with the objective of seeking out opportunities to exhibit Cuban works here in the United States.

“The art being created in this area is astounding despite the scarcity of materials. As my passion and appreciation for this regional art deepened, I began to consider ways to conquer the many frustrating obstacles that these remarkable artists encounter on a daily basis,” explained Mr. Hensley.

Gallery 14’s Arte de Cuba will showcase work by seven of these artists in a new show to open April 2 and run through April 27.

Visitors to the gallery will be able to meet Mr. Hensley not only at the Gallery Stroll reception on Friday night, April 5, from 5–8 p.m., but also on Saturday, April 6, from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., when he will give a special talk about Cuban Art.

All are welcome to attend both events. Refreshments will be served.

The April exhibit will also feature work by the following Gallery 14 artist partners: Edgardo Abello, Lila Blakeslee, Cheri Cruden, Barbara du Pont, Mary Ann Hall, Virginia Knapp, Barbara Landry, Deborah Morrell Polackwich, and Dorothy Napp Schindel.

Also showing are the gallery’s represented artists: Bryan Beck, glass sculpture; Joan Earnhart, assemblage; Emily Heinzel, colored pencil on wood; Carol Staub, mixed media; Francis Mesaros, sculpted oil; and Viola Pace Knudsen, fine art baskets.

Gallery 14 is located at 1911 14th Ave. in the Historic Downtown Arts District of Vero Beach.
