Indian River Habitat for Humanity thanks volunteers

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Indian River Habitat for Humanity said a great big “thank you” to its fabulous volunteers during the annual Volunteer Appreciation Event at First Church of God Feb. 1.

Some 300 volunteers gathered for a sit-down meal served by Habitat families, Habitat scholarship program participants, and youth from the Boys and Girls Clubs of Indian River County. Table decor featured a series of fantastic birdhouses created by local artists.

Guests enjoyed video presentations of volunteers at work throughout the year, and a homeowner slide presentation, which poignantly and clearly illustrated how Indian River Habitat has changed the lives of many families.

Recognition and awards were presented to house sponsors and volunteers in several categories, and Gold, Silver, and Bronze Presidential Awards were presented based on number of volunteer hours given annually.

Topping off the evening, members of Habitat’s staff, board, and volunteers presented a fully staged musical show, “Habitat’s Greatest Hits,” with original costumes, lyrics, and set, and all vocals by cast members.
