Youth Guidance announces new Executive Director Doug Borrie

VERO BEACH — Youth Guidance is proud to announce the selection of Doug Borrie as their new Executive Director. Borrie will fill the vacancy created in October by the resignation of Barbara Schlitt Ford. The selection was made after an extensive regional search and selection process by the Youth Guidance Board of Directors.

Borrie has worked in non-profit management for more than 20 years; the past 17 years at CASTLE of the Treasure Coast. He is an experienced grant writer and has developed many programs for families, always with the goal of providing services in an effective and efficient manner.

A native of New York, he attended Hofstra University where he received a Ph.D. in School & Community Psychology and moved to Florida in 1996. He is married to Lisa, his wife of 33 years, and has two children, Evan and Amanda.

“Youth Guidance is a critical program for so many children in Indian River County. Providing positive role models for our children helps them make good choices, establish goals, and gain self confidence,” said Borrie.

He is excited about the opportunities and challenges his new position provides. While there is a lot to do, he believes that the Board and staff of the organization are its strongest assets.

“Their dedication to the mission is strong, and they work hard every day to fulfill that mission. The future of youth Guidance is very bright,” added Borrie.

The mission of Youth Guidance, a United Way partner agency, is to empower Indian River County’s neediest youth through mentoring relationships, and broaden their horizons with educational, cultural, and recreational opportunities.

The agency is actively seeking volunteers to serve as mentors or periodic volunteers to participate in the variety of group mentoring programs and ongoing activities for children enrolled in the program, or to provide regular help in the office.

Youth Guidance is also looking for partnerships with businesses, service clubs, and church groups to pair with children for just one activity a year.
