McKee’s Jungle Gardens Day event Jan. 27

VERO BEACH — McKee Botanical Garden will honor its early Jungle Gardens heritage by holding its first-ever Jungle Gardens Day event on Sunday, Jan. 27. This date has been changed from Jan. 12.

Jungle Gardens Day will take place from 12-4 p.m. and will offer free admission for children age 12 and under.

The event will feature a number of family-friendly activities including: live animal demonstrations, facepainting, a stiltwalker, crafts, food, and more.

Visitors also will enjoy a performance by Showbirdz Parrot Shows.

“”Jungle Gardens Day is about celebrating the heritage and history that surrounds McKee Botanical Garden. “It’’s an opportunity for visitors of all ages to experience a bit of old Florida while exploring the Garden as it is today,” explained Executive Director Christine Hobart.

Visitors will receive $10 off any new annual membership that is purchased at the event.

Memberships to McKee Botanical Garden begin at $35 for an individual and are available at various levels.

Membership benefits include free admission for one year, a 10 percent discount in the Garden Gift Shop and Café, and free or discounted admission to more than 200 arboreta, gardens, and museums across North America through the American Horticulture Society’’s Reciprocal Admission Program.

Jungle Gardens Day is sponsored by Quail Valley Charities and the “AT&T Real Yellow Pages.”

The mission of McKee Botanical Garden is to nurture and enhance a historic garden in a unique tropical setting for the education, enjoyment, and enrichment of all.

McKee Botanical Garden is located at 350 US 1 in Vero Beach.

Summer admission fees are $7 adults, $6 seniors, and $4 children ages 3 to 12. Admission is free for members and children under 3.

Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Sunday, Noon to 5 p.m. The Garden is closed Mondays.
