Special Olympics thanks the Italian American Club of Sebastian

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — Special Olympics of Indian River County would like to extend their thanks and gratitude to the Italian American Club of Sebastian.

For the past seven years, this caring, giving organization has unselfishly donated their time and money by volunteering at both Special Olympics Area Games and Special Olympics State Games.

Their version of “volunteering” means supplying the much needed tables, chairs, tents, cooks, and overall manpower needed to help make these events a huge success.

This group doesn’t limit their volunteering to Special Olympics. For the last several years, they have also donated their time and energy to work special events at SunUp ARC.

As if that isn’t enough for this great organization, this year they donated $3,575 to Special Olympics of Indian River County. Talk about unsung heroes.

The mission of Special Olympics Florida is to provide year-round sports training and competition in a variety of Olympic-type sports for people with intellectual disabilities who wish to participate, giving them continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy, and participate in the sharing of gifts, skills, and friendship with their families, other Special Olympics athletes, and the community.

The ultimate objective of Special Olympics Florida is to help people with intellectual disabilities to participate as productive and respected members of society at large, by offering them a fair opportunity to develop and demonstrate their skills and talents through sports training and competition, and by increasing the public’s awareness of their capabilities and needs.
