Education Foundation receives $4,000 grant from Bank of America

VERO BEACH — The Education Foundation of Indian River County (EF-IRC) received a grant of $4,000 from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation to support Vero Beach High School’s Commercial Photography Academy with new computers.

The EF-IRC responded to a request for proposals in July of 2012 from the Bank of America Charitable Foundation. There were three priority focus areas: community development, workforce development/education, and critical needs.

The EF-IRC’s grant proposal focused on educational opportunities to provide students training that will translate into post-secondary completion and employment.

The grant project is a collaborative effort to support the Commercial Photography Academy. It is one of the newest career academies at Vero Beach High School.

Through the EF-IRC’s involvement, additional dollars have been raised through an added grant of $5,000 from Motorola and a business partnership through Piper Aircraft.

The purpose of the grant project is to give students enrolled in the Commercial Photography Academy the ability to learn, practice, and test their skills in Adobe Photoshop.

This practice would enable students to receive career and technical training, industry certification, and articulated college credits for high school graduation as well as become eligible for Bright Futures/Gold Seal Scholarships.

The EF-IRC exists to fulfill unmet funding gaps. For over 21 years, our program services have been focused on enriching and enhancing educational opportunities for all students and teachers, both public and private, through effective fundraising and efficient allocation of resources.

The EF-IRC is one of only ten education foundations in the State of Florida to serve both public and private school students. This unique structure, as an independent 501(c)3 non-profit, allows the organization to direct funding where it is needed most to build a better community.

This ensures educational opportunities for every Pre-K through 12th grade student in Indian River County.

During the previous fiscal year, 86% of each dollar went to program services. A dedicated team of volunteers and two staff members work diligently to allocate resources efficiently.
