IRMC’s Pier Mangieri receives first ACCS Certification on the Treasure Coast

VERO BEACH — “Congratulations go to Indian River Medical Center’s Pier Mangieri, RRT-ACCS, the first respiratory therapist on the Treasure Coast to receive Adult Critical Care Specialty (ACCS) certification,” said Timothy Howald, CPFT, RRT, Respiratory supervisor at IRMC.

The National Board for Respiratory Care (NBRC) began offering this specialty certification last year. The ACCS specialty examination program is designed specifically for a respiratory therapist with the RRT credential and experience in the field of adult critical care.

Eligible participants have already demonstrated advance knowledge in the field of respiratory care; therefore, the exam focuses on competencies unique to therapists practicing in an adult critical care setting and not basic competencies of general respiratory care.

The exam process required Pier to have a sponsor, and Dr. George Mitchell, medical director, IRMC Critical Care, served in this capacity.

Mangieri came to IRMC in 1994.
