Local attorney acted as judge for mock trial

VERO BEACH — The Waxlax Stage at Riverside Theatre was the setting for a sexual harassment case mock trial presented recently by the Treasure Coast Human Resource Association (SHRM.)

Helen Scott, a partner in the law firm of Rossway Moore Swan, presided as Judge for Yourself. The cast of characters as well as the audience, who acted as the jury, were members of the association.

Mr. Gordon Grope, Lifeguard Superior (played by Dr. Mark Wade,) was accused of sexually harassing Ms. Wanda Waterwings, Lifeguard (played by Laurie Collings.) Others acting in the mock trial were SHRM President Michelle Bollinger reading the plaintiff allegations; William Kearney, V as Mr. H.R. Personnel Professional; Ellen Soback as Defense Attorney; Kim Melzer as Plaintiff Attorney, and Lori Pereira as Bailiff.

Following an intense interrogation and compelling argument, the verdict was handed down: unanimous verdict for the Plaintiff, Wanda Waterwings. Hearing on damages was postponed to a later date.

This presentation was held at one of the monthly business meetings presented by the HR Association, which is an affiliate of the Society for Human Resource Management.

The organization provides members with the principles and standards of human resource management and promotes the value of Human Resources as a profession.

In addition, they are committed to fostering professional growth through education, research, and exchange of knowledge to ensure that HR is recognized as an essential and effective strategic partner in our community.
