VERO BEACH — Exchange Club of Indian River members are recent recipients of club, state, and national awards. The club named Joan Barcus the winner of the 2012 Exchangite of the Year award, its top honor.
A member of the club since 2009, Barcus has served Exchange as its secretary and treasurer, member of the Board of Directors and many committees, and fundraising chair.
She was recognized for her untiring work on behalf of the club. R.J. MacMillan, immediate past president, presented the award to her at the club’s annual Installation Banquet.
Florida District Exchange Clubs recognized David Albrecht as its Unsung Hero of the Year at its 91st annual statewide convention held in St. Petersburg. Albrecht was recognized for his ongoing contributions to Exchange since joining the club in 1986 and to the community at large for his charitable acts on behalf of children and families.
Nancy Gollnick was also honored by the Florida District for her outstanding performance as Division Director of the Year. She now serves the District as its 2012-2013 secretary of the board of directors.
The Indian River Exchangites also received two awards from the national organization this year. Jenny Frederick was honored by the National Exchange Club with its Distinguished Club Secretary Award. Frederick is currently President-Elect of the Indian River club.
The Indian River Exchangites also received National Exchange Club’s national Public Relations Award for clubs of fewer than fifty members. Jan J. Binney chairs the club’s Publicity Committee.
Exchange Club of Indian River meets for lunch at Culinary Capers each Wednesday at Noon. Meetings feature programs on a wide range of business, government and civic, charity, personal, and professional topics.
The club has provided the community with programs in youth activities, service, and Americanism since 1979. Through participation in its national mission, the Prevention of Child Abuse, the Exchange Club of Indian River’s Foundation supports a number of local youth-related projects.
Major fundraisers include the Annual Exchange Club Blue Water Open Dolphin Mania Charity Fishing Tournament each May.
