INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Hurricane Sandy is now moving away from Florida creating tropical storm force winds near North Carolina.
The Vero Beach Municipal Airport recorded high wind gusts at 53 m.p.h.
According to the Indian River Emergency Management the highest sea state measured 3 miles off the coast was 17.1 feet with an estimated highest shore break of 10 feet. Preliminary erosion information (which will change after coastal engineers confirm Monday) is approx. 20 feet into dune line is some areas, undermining of numerous board walks and beach access.
Also, Indian River County and the City of Vero Beach guarded beaches are open. Beaches are flying double red flags indicating “no swimming”. Extreme caution should be exercised at any beach due to strong rip currents, boardwalk damages and debris in the surf.
All schools will be open on Monday.
All County and Municipality building and services will resume normal work hours.
Road closure in the City of Vero Beach, Ocean Drive is closed between Greytwig Road and Indian Lilac Road due to beach erosion.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The Indian River Shores Public Safety Department reported at 1:30 pm that the town is experiencing sustained winds of 40 miles per hour with gusts up to 55 m.h.p.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – The Indian River County Emergency Management has listed the following closures and we’ve accumulated these cancellations and postponements.
The storm is effecting garbage and recycle pickup also.
There is no garbage or recycle pickup in unincorporated areas of Indian River County or Indian River Shores.
Sandy is approaching the Great Abaco Island.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Hurricane Sandy is now approaching the central Bahamas. Current max sustained winds are at 105 m.p.h.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Storm Warning remains in effect. Indian River County Emergency Management is urging residents to make final preparations to protect “life and property” before conditions deteriorate.
The first squall line of the storm moved through last night.
At 5 a.m. the storm was 540 miles south-southeast of Fort Pierce. Moving at a speed of 18 m.p.h.
The threat for sustained high winds is likely to tonight into Friday and Friday night continuing into Saturday, according to IRCEM.
Surf conditions will become extremely dangerous this afternoon through Saturday. Beach goers should remain out of the surf.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Indian River County is now under a Tropical Storm Warning. Hurricane Sandy is holding steady at 80 m.p.h.
The storm is now emerging off the northeast coast of Jamaica.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Tropical Storm Sandy has been upgraded to Hurricane Sandy, though conditions are deteriorating over Jamaica.
Max sustained winds were 80 m.p.h. at 11 a.m.

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY – Indian River County is now under a Tropical Storm watch because of Tropical Storm Sandy according to the Indian River County Emergency Management.
Tropical Storm conditions are possible within the next 48 hours.
The storm is currently approaching Jamaica with max sustained winds of 70 m.p.h.
Dangerous rip currents accompanied by strong winds, beach erosion, and locally heavy rainfall are possible according to the National Weather Service.
