Thomas E. Vanderheiden, 74, died July 13, 2012, at the VNA Hospice House.
He was born in Valentine, Neb., and lived in Vero Beach for 1½ years, coming from Colorado.
Before retirement, he worked as an engineer He served in the Army Reserves.
He attended St. Helen Catholic Church. He was a member of the Knights of Columbus, Project Management Institute, Elks Lodge and Sigma Phi Delta Fraternity.
Survivors include his wife of 49 years, Carol J. Vanderheiden; son, Kurt Vanderheiden of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter, Annette Abbott of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; sister, Janice Hewitt of South Dakota; brother, James Vanderheiden of Minnesota; and three grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Don Vanderheiden.

None are planned at this time.
