It’s hard to believe it has been a year since Rio joined my family. He brings fun and excitement to everyday. Like every adopted dog, we have worked hard to improve Rio’s training and behavior.
The training part has been pretty easy. He knows the basics, sit, down, stay and come. He will leave most any item on the verbal signal, “leave it.” His leash walking is much better. I do use a Sensation Harness, designed to prevent pulling, but am relying on it less.
The behavior part has been more challenging. Rio had serious issues with men. He is now buddies with my husband, frequently soliciting pets and attention. That’s a big change from his original attempts to nip and bite.
Rio also has a few men he is now friendly with, although, not completely comfortable. He is continuing to improve and we work on his human social skills at every opportunity. Rio is great with other dogs. This is a bonus for me.
Rio regularly helps me with my work by meeting some of my client’s dogs with canine social problems. By carefully introducing Rio, we have been able to bridge the gap for some socially challenged dogs and enhance their lives. The rescued dog is helping his peers.
How cool is that?
Rio is a loving companion and friend. He is ready to go on any adventure with me. If you are planning to add a dog to your family, think adoption. There are so many Rios out there hoping to be a part of your life.
