Shoe Party benefits children in need

INDIAN RIVER COUNTY — The Education Foundation of Indian River County is fortunate to have many friends with big and philanthropic hearts. So it was no surprise that Carol Fischman, longtime supporter and Sneaker Exchange fan, wanted to do something special to celebrate her 60th birthday.

Anyone who knows Carol understands that she has a heart for children. She wanted to do something not for herself (or for recognition) but to do what is her passion – helping children succeed.

So she gathered up her friends and invited them to a birthday party at Payless ShoeSource to benefit 60 children from the Thompson Life Long Learning Center’s Pre-K program. Instead of presents, she and her friends, donated to the Education Foundation’s Sneaker Exchange program to benefit these pre-school students in need of new sneakers and socks.

Needless to say, the big kids had almost as much fun as the children did! The purpose of the party was to keep children on a path of learning by providing appropriate footwear and socks. These simple gifts help to support students in all school activities with renewed self-confidence.

The Education Foundation is grateful for Carol’s innovative idea to make a day brighter for children in need. We also believe that she has started a new trend in fundraising for our community!
